Release week punishes stale assumptions. One shifted calendar row, one changed threshold, or one misread close time can scramble a careful plan. This guide is the final pre-release recheck for the September 2026 jobs report, run seven days out, recording what official sources showed on September 25, 2026 and what to reverify before Friday.
The September 2026 Employment Situation report, which carries the monthly nonfarm payrolls estimate, is scheduled for Friday, October 2, 2026 at 8:30 a.m. ET (12:30 UTC), per both Bureau of Labor Statistics calendar views rechecked on September 25. Kalshi details below come from an API snapshot taken the same day and are not a live availability promise.
Primary sources checked: the BLS Employment Situation schedule, the BLS October 2026 calendar, the Employment Situation release page named as the Kalshi settlement source, and the Kalshi API event record for KXPAYROLLS-26SEP.
The original pre-event verification guide, published August 29, remains canonical for release-date basics and the full market-structure walkthrough. Three items were rechecked on September 25:
Handle the funding item with care. The law removes the near-term lapse cliff and BLS still lists October 2 unchanged, but it does not put BLS publishing on autopilot, and this page does not forecast what Congress does next. The bureau's calendar governs the date.
The event record, fetched September 25, 2026, shows the event titled "Jobs numbers in Sep 2026?" on the KXPAYROLLS series, settling against the BLS Employment Situation report. The series' open-events list contained exactly three events: KXPAYROLLS-26SEP, KXPAYROLLS-26OCT ("Jobs numbers in October 2026?"), and KXPAYROLLS-26NOV. For context, the October event's 13 markets all close November 6 at 13:29 UTC (8:29 a.m. EST, after the return to standard time).
Snapshot facts for KXPAYROLLS-26SEP:
The rules for the 50000 market (KXPAYROLLS-26SEP-T50000) read, verbatim: "If the increase in total non-farm payroll employment is above 50000 as reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics Monthly Employment Situation Report for the month of September 2026, then the market resolves to Yes." The secondary rule reads: "The market closes at 8:29 AM ET on the expected date of the data release."
One negative finding matters: these payrolls rules contain no shutdown-delay contingency clause of the kind some CPI events carry. Do not assume a delay mechanism exists, or that the market stays open if BLS ever reschedules. Current rules, prices, and availability must come from Kalshi directly.
Three different clocks govern this event, and conflating them is a classic pre-release error:
Nonfarm payrolls come from the Current Employment Statistics (establishment) survey, which estimates nonfarm wage and salary jobs. A person holding two jobs is counted twice; agriculture, private households, and the self-employed are excluded; and a net birth-death adjustment accounts for new firms. The unemployment rate comes from the separate household survey released in the same report and can move on different margins. The BLS quick guide owns the full methodology, and this page defers to it.
Between now and Friday, October 2, reverify each item:
No. Both BLS calendar views rechecked on September 25, 2026 still list the September 2026 Employment Situation for Friday, October 2 at 8:30 a.m. ET. The October month view was last modified February 18, 2026, unchanged since the August 29 verification. BLS updates the calendar as needed, usually at least a week before a scheduled release, so a final check close to release day stays on the list.
No, not in the September 25 snapshot. KXPAYROLLS-26SEP still lists 13 active threshold markets, the same count as August 29, and every market still carries the 12:29 UTC (8:29 a.m. ET) close time. The threshold ladder is also unchanged. The counts come from a dated snapshot, not a live feed, so traders should confirm the current lineup, prices, and availability directly on Kalshi before October 2.
No. Public Law 119-103, enacted September 2, 2026, funds appropriations through December 11, 2026 and removes the near-term lapse cliff that sat one day before this release when the first guide was verified. It does not control BLS operations. The bureau's own calendar governs the release date, it still lists October 2 at 8:30 a.m. ET, and traders should recheck it during release week.
No. The data release is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. ET, which is 12:30 UTC on daylight time. In the September 25 snapshot, every KXPAYROLLS-26SEP market shows a close time one minute earlier, at 12:29 UTC, plus an expected expiration time of 14:00 UTC. Those are three different timestamps, none is a guaranteed settlement moment, and the event record shows early close is possible.
