August 2026 Jobs Report: Final BLS and Kalshi Contract Check

A release-week decision should start with two separate timestamps, when the contract closes and when the government data arrives. For the August payrolls release, the verified gap was one minute as of the August 28 check. Traders should still confirm the live Kalshi rules before acting.

Primary sources checked: the BLS September 2026 release calendar, Kalshi markets, the August 28 Kalshi event API snapshot, Kalshi market-rules guidance, and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

August payrolls release date and time

The August 2026 jobs report is scheduled for Friday, September 4, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time. The report covers economic conditions during August, even though BLS publishes it in September.

The BLS calendar still showed that date and time when rechecked on August 28, 2026. It had also matched checks on July 23 and August 7. That consistency is useful, but it does not make the schedule immutable. BLS says its calendar is updated as needed, usually at least one week before a scheduled release.

The word “final” in this page title refers to the final-week calendar and contract check. It does not mean the first payroll estimate is final or immune from revision.

Kalshi contract check: 8:29 a.m. close versus 8:30 a.m. release

A public Kalshi API snapshot captured at 05:32:27 UTC on August 28 returned the monthly series KXPAYROLLS, titled “Jobs numbers,” and the event KXPAYROLLS-26AUG, titled “Jobs numbers in Aug 2026?” The event contained 13 nested above-threshold markets, all marked active in that dated response.

Every nested market in that snapshot shared a close time of September 4 at 12:29 UTC, which is 8:29 a.m. Eastern Time. That was one minute before the scheduled BLS release at 8:30 a.m. Eastern.

These timestamps serve different purposes:

The snapshot proves what the API returned on August 28. It does not establish that the event or any individual market remains active, available, or unchanged afterward. Current availability, prices, fees, eligibility, and exact settlement text must come directly from Kalshi.

What traders should recheck during the final week

The most important final-week task is not predicting payroll growth. It is checking whether the source and contract details still match the assumptions behind a position.

Kalshi is CFTC-regulated, settles contracts in USD, and requires identity verification. Access can be available internationally subject to the Member Agreement, restricted jurisdictions, identity checks, and local law. Regulatory status does not eliminate market, execution, or contract-interpretation risk.

Payroll jobs are not the same as employed people

The BLS Employment Situation measurement guide explains that the report combines two surveys. The establishment survey measures nonfarm employment, hours, and earnings by industry. The household survey measures labor-force status, including unemployment.

Total nonfarm payroll employment is a count of jobs from the establishment survey. Household-survey employment is a count of employed people. The payroll change, unemployment rate, labor-force participation rate, and earnings growth are related indicators, but they are not interchangeable.

The September 4 payroll figure will also be a preliminary estimate. BLS revises payroll estimates in each of the next two monthly releases and later applies benchmark revisions. Traders should read the exact contract language to determine which published value controls settlement.

For a broader preparation list, see the August payrolls BLS and Kalshi checklist. Contract definitions and probability-price mechanics are covered separately in the jobs-report market guide. Source updates may also be monitored through the @Kalshi_market channel, but official BLS and Kalshi pages remain controlling. The next release in the series is already scheduled for October 2, 2026: see the September 2026 nonfarm payrolls verification.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the August 2026 jobs report released?

BLS schedules the Employment Situation for August 2026 for Friday, September 4, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time. The calendar still showed that timing on August 28. Because BLS says schedules are updated as needed, traders should recheck the official September calendar on the morning of publication.

What time does the Kalshi August jobs event close?

The August 28 public API snapshot showed a shared close time of 8:29 a.m. Eastern on September 4 for the 13 nested markets in KXPAYROLLS-26AUG. That is one minute before the scheduled BLS release. This is dated evidence, not a promise that the live event remains available or unchanged.

Is the first August 2026 payroll estimate final?

No. BLS says preliminary payroll estimates are revised in each of the next two monthly releases and are later subject to benchmark revisions. The September 4 publication is the first estimate for August, not the permanent final value. Kalshi settlement depends on the exact market rules, which traders should verify directly.

What should traders verify before trading a Kalshi jobs market?

Check the active market page, exact threshold wording, close time, settlement source, outcome rules, fees, eligibility, and available order-book conditions. Do not use the BLS calendar as a substitute for Kalshi’s contract terms. The calendar establishes the scheduled release, while the selected market’s live rules establish how that contract is handled.
