Calendar mistakes can be as costly as a bad market read. For September 2026 nonfarm payrolls, traders need to separate the official jobs-report release time from the Kalshi contract close and recheck both before placing an order. This is a static verification page, not a live price screen. Rate-decision markets follow the same discipline; the September 2026 Fed decision week checklist covers the September 15-16 meeting.
Primary sources checked: the BLS October 2026 release calendar, the Kalshi KXPAYROLLS open-events API endpoint, and Kalshi’s market-rules guidance. The source check was completed on August 29, 2026 at 05:32 UTC.
As of the August 29 source check, the official BLS calendar listed Employment Situation, September 2026 for Friday, October 2, 2026 at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time. The calendar page says times are Eastern and shows a last-modified date of February 18, 2026.
The October 2 date should not be treated as immutable. Traders should check the BLS calendar again near September 25 and on release morning, especially if a federal holiday, operational disruption, or calendar revision affects publication timing.
The August 29 Kalshi API snapshot showed a contract-family close of 2026-10-02T12:29:00Z, which corresponds to 8:29 a.m. Eastern Time. That was one minute before the scheduled 8:30 a.m. BLS release. The snapshot also showed an expected expiration time of 2026-10-02T14:00:00Z.
These fields should not be conflated. The BLS calendar states when the government report is scheduled for publication. The Kalshi market fields describe contract timing captured in a dated API response. Current close times, expiration fields, availability, and exact settlement rules must be verified directly on Kalshi.
Kalshi’s public API identified the monthly series KXPAYROLLS as “Jobs numbers.” At 05:32:42 UTC on August 29, 2026, the open-events response included four monthly events, covering August through November 2026.
The relevant September event was KXPAYROLLS-26SEP, titled “Jobs numbers in Sep 2026?” The dated response showed:
Verbatim rule sample: “If the increase in total non-farm payroll employment is above -25000 as reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics Monthly Employment Situation Report for the month of September 2026, then the market resolves to Yes.”
The series metadata captured in this check did not include settlement_source or contract_terms fields. This guide therefore does not infer those details from the series response. The snapshot proves that KXPAYROLLS-26SEP was relevant and active at that specific timestamp, not that it remains active or available to a particular reader later.
Kalshi is a CFTC-regulated, USD-settled prediction market, and account access requires identity verification. Those facts do not establish that a specific contract is currently available. Readers should obtain current market status and rules from Kalshi directly.
The Employment Situation combines two separate monthly surveys. The establishment survey measures nonfarm jobs, hours, and earnings by industry. The household survey measures the labor-force status of people, including employment and unemployment.
These figures are related but not interchangeable. A person can hold more than one payroll job, while the household survey counts that person once as employed. Participation, earnings growth, unemployment, and payroll changes also answer different questions.
The October 2 figure will be the first estimate for September, not the final number. BLS says preliminary payroll estimates are revised in each of the next two monthly releases and later benchmarked. September payrolls should therefore be revised in the October 2026 and November 2026 Employment Situation reports.
Before relying on the September 2026 nonfarm payrolls calendar or contract snapshot, traders should complete a short source check:
For contract definitions and price mechanics, see the evergreen jobs report and Kalshi payroll markets guide. The BLS calendar checked on August 29, 2026 scheduled the September Employment Situation for Friday, October 2, 2026 at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time. That schedule can change because BLS updates its calendar as needed. Traders should verify the official calendar near September 25 and again before the expected publication time.
The August 29, 2026 API snapshot showed KXPAYROLLS-26SEP, titled “Jobs numbers in Sep 2026?”, with 13 nested markets marked active. They shared an 8:29 a.m. Eastern close on October 2 in that response. The snapshot does not establish present availability, current prices, or the rules visible when a reader accesses Kalshi.
No. Total nonfarm payroll employment counts jobs through the BLS establishment survey. Household-survey employment counts employed people. One person may hold multiple payroll jobs, so the two measures can move differently. The unemployment rate, labor-force participation rate, payroll change, and earnings growth are also separate statistics.
Yes. The October 2 release is the preliminary estimate for September 2026. BLS says preliminary payroll estimates are revised in each of the next two monthly Employment Situation releases and later through benchmark revisions. Traders should distinguish the first published figure from later revised data and follow the exact Kalshi settlement language.
