September 2026 CPI: October 14 Release Date and Kalshi Cutoffs

The September 2026 CPI report is scheduled for Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time, covering September prices. For Kalshi traders, the practical issue is that the monthly event snapshot shows trading closing five minutes before publication, while its generic terms show a different cutoff. Check both the reference month and the exact rules before submitting an order.

Source snapshot: September 10, 2026. This is a static advance guide, not a live price feed. BLS can update its schedule, and current contract availability must be checked directly on Kalshi.

Primary sources checked: the BLS October calendar, the BLS CPI release schedule, and Kalshi’s September monthly CPI event record. The timing distinctions below reflect the dated evidence, not a guarantee about future trading access.

September 2026 CPI release calendar and cutoff checklist

The two BLS calendars agree on October 14 at 8:30 a.m. ET. They are two pages from the same agency, not independent statistical confirmations. New York will be on Eastern Daylight Time that day, making the scheduled release 12:30 UTC.

Do not confuse this with the report published during September. The September 11 CPI release guide covers August data. Its contract timing should not be copied into the October 14 checklist.

Monthly CPI, annual inflation, and core are different measures

The BLS CPI questions and answers explain why “CPI” alone is not a sufficient contract description. The reference period, adjustment method, and included items matter.

Monthly headline CPI

Kalshi’s KXCPI series record identifies BLS CPI as its settlement source. The linked CPI contract terms define the signed, one-month percentage change in seasonally adjusted CPI-U, expressed to one decimal place. The September event uses “more than” threshold wording. Equality is not the same as exceeding a threshold.

Year-over-year headline CPI

The KXCPIYOY series record links to annual CPI terms covering the unadjusted, all-items CPI-U twelve-month change to one decimal. The September annual event record refers to the twelve months ending September 2026. That is not the monthly change.

Core CPI

Core CPI excludes food and energy. It is not interchangeable with either headline measure above, and this guide does not establish a September core contract. No September result or inflation forecast is supplied by the source snapshot. For broader background, see the general CPI market mechanics guide, not as authority for this event’s cutoff.

Why the October 14 Kalshi cutoff needs a second check

On September 10, the monthly event returned 11 active nested markets, all with an October 14 close time of 12:25 UTC. Its secondary rules also named 8:25 a.m. ET. The annual event returned 21 active nested markets, all closing at 12:29 UTC. These counts describe that snapshot only.

The discrepancy is substantive: both generic PDFs list last trading at 8:29 a.m. ET, but the exact monthly event says 8:25. This guide does not decide which material legally controls or claim that an API record overrides contract terms. Traders should review the current exact market and request clarification from Kalshi if the conflict persists.

Four timestamps should remain separate:

The PDFs list 8:31 a.m. ET expiration, but that does not prove an actual settlement or payout time. The exact event rules also contain a conditional government-shutdown-related data-delay provision. Its existence does not establish that a shutdown or delay will occur. Read the full exact rules rather than assuming a revised date or fallback outcome.

What to verify before October 14

The CFTC trading-organization record provides regulatory evidence, not approval of this exact contract or proof of universal availability.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the September 2026 CPI report released?

As of the September 10, 2026 source snapshot, BLS schedules the report for Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time, or 12:30 UTC. It covers September prices. BLS says its schedule is updated as needed, so readers should recheck the official calendar before release day.

Why is September CPI data released in October?

The month in the report identifies the reference period being measured, not its publication date. BLS schedules September’s CPI report for October 14 in the calendar checked September 10. By contrast, the September 11 publication covers August data. Keeping those labels separate prevents using the wrong report or contract timing.

What are Kalshi’s monthly and annual September CPI trading cutoffs?

The September 10 snapshot shows KXCPI-26SEP closing October 14 at 8:25 a.m. ET and KXCPIYOY-26SEP at 8:29 a.m. ET. However, the generic monthly PDF lists 8:29, conflicting with the exact monthly event. These are dated observations, not guaranteed future cutoffs. Verify current rules and seek Kalshi clarification without assuming a legal hierarchy.

Does the October 14 CPI release mean immediate Kalshi settlement?

No. Publication, trading close, expiration, and payout are different events. The generic PDFs list 8:31 a.m. ET expiration, but that is not evidence of immediate settlement or payment. The exact event rules also contain a conditional data-delay contingency. Check the current contract text rather than treating the scheduled BLS release as a payout deadline.
