What is a ticker on Kalshi?

How it works on Kalshi

Every Kalshi series, event and market has a ticker, and they often nest. Kalshi's API documentation shows the series KXHIGHNY, an event KXHIGHNY-24JAN01 in that series and a market KXHIGHNY-24JAN01-T60 in that event. A series is the template for a recurring question, and events in a series share its ticker prefix.

Kalshi warns that there are occasional exceptions, so the ticker string is not a reliable way to work out relationships; its API returns series_ticker and event_ticker fields for that. On the website, the market, event and series tickers appear in the "Timeline and Payout" section of a market page.

Why it matters: fee type, rules and settlement sources are set per series, and combo markets use tickers that start with KXMVE. When you compare prices across sites or tools, match on the market ticker, not on the headline.

• Market: One yes-or-no contract inside a Kalshi event, such as "Above 3.10" in a gas price event, with its own ticker, order book, prices and rules.
• Event: A group of related Kalshi markets about one question or occasion, such as all price strikes for one date; each event belongs to a series.
• Fee multiplier: A number set per Kalshi series that scales its fee calculation, so the same order can pay a different fee in a different series.
• Combo (multivariate market): A Kalshi market that bundles several outcomes into one position, priced by request for quote, paying $1 per contract only if every leg wins.
