Resting order: A limit order, or its unfilled part, waiting in a Kalshi order book; it fills only when someone trades against it and can be canceled at no cost.
Kalshi's help center defines a resting order as an offer to purchase contracts at a certain price that is not matched immediately. Under Kalshi's rulebook an unmatched order rests on the platform until it is matched, until you cancel it, or until Kalshi cancels it when the contract expires.
Resting orders make you the maker. Kalshi does not charge its trading fee on them unless the market is listed with maker fees, and even then only when the order executes; its help center says there is no fee for canceling a resting order. Kalshi's Liquidity Incentive Program also rewards eligible resting orders, scored by size and closeness to a reference price, even when they do not fill.
What to check: Kalshi's API documentation says resting orders are cancelled shortly after a market closes and all resting orders are cancelled when a paused market is reactivated. An old order can also fill when news moves the price, so review your open orders before big announcements.
